MIS Ceramic Composite Implant Drills

MIS has introduced a ceramic composite (Zirconium / Yttrium / Aluminium) drills in 2.0 mm, 2.1 mm and 2.8 mm diameter. They reportedly feature reduced vibration and smoother operation. One important property that Zirconium drills claim over stainless-steel drills is that they maintain their sharp edge for an extended period.

I have used the 2.0 mm MIS pilot drill for about 12 surgeries so far and I have to say the cutting action is very smooth, with minimal vibration and no `torque stutter` commonly seen with stainless steel drills. The patients seem to experience no pressure or vibration and seems to allow me to make a smooth and accurate initial osteotomy. My only criticism would be that the depth gauge markers are starting to fade. I recently ordered the 2.8mm drill, unfortunately they don`t have any larger diameter drills, but according to Moti (US salesperson), these are in the works.
